Shopping for a Sofa? Here's What You Need to Know

Shopping for a sofa doesn't have to be frustrating, especially if you answer some major questions about your lifestyle before hitting the stores. The most important thing to consider when shopping for a sofa is to think about how you use your living room on an everyday basis. Here are some questions to help you decide on the best sofa for your needs:

Do you entertain frequently? If the answer is yes, you might want something that's more on the firm side with great back support.

Are you more the lounging type who likes to relax on the sofa with a good book or a movie? You want an option that you can really sink into, with cozy cushions and a rather soft fabric.

Are there young children in your space? There's no better option than leather, preferably in a dark color such as chocolate brown. It's super easy to clean and it will hold up well over time. For those who aren't into leather, a washable, slip-covered option would also work well.

Your sofa is one of the most used items in your home. Take the time to shop for one you really love--one that's not only stylish and suits your personality, but durable as well.

The Best Home Store in Atlanta: Pieces

While in Buckhead, Atlanta last year, I checked out Pieces, which has a nice mix of high-end and affordable items for the home. Lee Kleinhelter opened the store in 2004, and it really should be on your to-do list for your next Atlanta trip. Here are a few fun photos I snapped of the store:

Decorating Through Winter Blues

The weather has been beyond gross in New York City. Snow, rain and cold temps can take a toll on your mood. If you're living in similar weather conditions and a pick-me-up is in order for you, try infusing some energy into your home with these three easy tips:

Fresh flowers. Grab a bunch of your favorite blooms and place them on your nightstand or coffee table. Catching a glimpse of them during the day can instantly boost your energy level.

Colored sheets. Try yellow, pink or even a bold print to add an interesting element to your bedroom.

White bath towels. When I think of some of my best hotel stays, plush, white towels always come to mind. They feel luxurious and can give a bath area a spa-like feel when stacked on shelves or hung nicely.

The Cutest Magazine File

I've been seeing this magazine file from the Container Store in a number of places, including the latest issue of Lonny. This has to be the most stylish magazine file out there, and I'm loving the brocade design. Get it here for $14.99.

Designer Rebecca Moses' Style Tips

It's been a little while since I've come across a coffee table book that I truly love, and fashion designer Rebecca Moses' A Life of Style is just what I've been missing. It's a fun look at the elements that make for a stylish lifestyle, from your makeup routine and wardrobe to the atmosphere in your home.

It's really like a grown-up children's book (if that makes any sense), with colorful watercolor illustrations accompanied by pretty script. The one takeaway from the book is that stylish people are really born that way. You either have it or you don't. Now isn't that true?!

Random House has a nice slideshow of the inside pages here.
